The Real Thing

The Duke of Burgundy's coats of arms
have been skilfully removed from

the border decorations of our Missale.
He was deemed a traitor, then rubbed out.

Blake's method of deep relief etching
on copper was a mystery until World War II.

His illustrations to the Divine Comedy,
Young's Night Thoughts and Blair's The Grave

are incredible. I wish I could do that.
I watched a video in the Audio-Visual Library

with Japanese subtitles called A Blake Celebration
and they had this dude waltzing through fields

hugging lots of children and singing. After Baxter
it's hard to believe, but that was Blake all over.
